77 Official formation of
Kakranfé in the First Partition
79 Border squabbling between Kakranfé and Labland marks the first violations of the First Partition.
185-90: War with Labland ends with capture of eastern Anthrelle. First
development of Rifton into a large town.
837: Emboldened by an alliance with the Erish Empire, Labland invaides Kakranfan-held Mittelgs. Capture of Barbel.
839: Support from Erenland
swings the balance of the war further towards the Labbish. By the winter they have conquered most of
the Mittelgs, including Dorleans, and the south-west shores of the Asat
Estuary.
840: Labland capture the islands
of Arazit and Darkmeed. Jomat and a
small sliver of the Anden shelf are Kakranfé's only presence left on the
mainland south of the Asat.
841: Two Kakranfan fleets are
destroyed; one by the Labbish in the Azat Estuary, one arriving from the Bandar
by storms just off K'aam. Labland
captures Savacia but attacks on S'lakan and Sardac are unsucessful.
842: Woulas, King of Kakranfé,
is murdered by his brother D'dan.
Woulas' son Ardanse survives, however, and clashes between his
supporters and D'dan's push Y'kel F'raf into anarchy.
843: Ardanse escapes to Labland,
returning with a Labbish fleet. D'dan
and his party flee to Nachbar. Ardanse
set up as a puppet ruler by the Labbish, who proclaim they have conquered all
of Kakranfé.
844: All the free Kakranfan
lands and towns transfer their allegience to D'dan. By 847 Labland has realised Ardanse is no use and locked him
away. The northern Azat towns harrassed
by Labland but to little effect.
Capture of most of the remaining Estuary islands except Sardac, which
spends the next few decades effectively as an independent nation.
845-8: Various clashes, none
decisive overal. The arrival of
significant reinforcements from the Bandar and the Wastes cities, together with
the withdrawal of Erish support to concentrate on their Dorlaf campaign, evens
the forces out. A truce signed in 849.
900: Erenland invadies Labland
from the west. Kakranfé promptly begins
building up its forces in anticipaton.
901-4: Re-capture of K'luth and
some smaller Estuary islands by Kakranfé, though other attacks beaten off. Concentrating on its traditional enemy,
Labland rapidly loses western territory to Erenalnd.
905-6: A mass invasion launched
from Sardac seizes Dorleans, Jomat and most of the Mittelgs. Niche falls to the Erish.
907: The Kakranfan march is halted after being routed at the Altaran River. The Erish are halted too by a mutiny of their troops. Labland becomes an odd nation centred on the Azat Estuary for the next twenty years, their new capital Barbel.
915,18: Two marches into the Mittelgs against Kakranfé by the Erish Empire, but both defeated.
925: Kakranfé forms an alliance with Erenland and attacks the remnants of Labland. Barbel captured by Erenland.
927: A desparate Labland launches 'The Firebomb,' sailing burning ships into the harbours of Sardac and Pallathon. The Kakranfan navy is crippled. Erish armies push through the Mittelgs, making increasingly little distinction between Labbish and Kakranfan held territory.
929: Labland surrenders and is incorporated into the Erish Empire after a long siege of Y'kel F'raf. Erenland quickly attacks Belsover, effectively transferring its war to Kakranfé.
930: Erenland captures most of the Mittelgs. Beats away a Kakranfan counter-thrust up the Asat.
931: Sardac invaided, the island overrun and the port finally falling after a long siege. Erenland makes unsucessful attempts to open up a western front by attacking Galaj and Natrisk, defeated emphatically.
932: The war staggers to a close. Kakranfé has been driven back to the North Azat towns again though still has K'luth and Darkmeet.
957: Kakranfé joins the revolt against the Erish Empire. Quickly captures all the Asatan Islands and Estuary Lands and pushes west.
958-63: Labland, itself freshly liberated, strikes against Kakranfé. Ends up capturing all Anthrelle and much of the Mittelgs/Lowlands.
1000-14: First Asat War with Labland, Nissal and Cuorn Tall. Kakranfé eventually driven into the Mittelgs.
1090's: Q'ern W'fac, a young radical ex-sailer, begins agitating in K'ram. His message is a mixture of socialism – equal shares of power and wealth – and patriotism – recapture the Azatan lands from the Labbish.
1102: Revolt of K'ram leads to W'fac siezing control of the city. First contact made with Christoté, who are looking for a reliable northern ally and tiring of the Kakranfan crown.
1103: K'ram attacked by government forces and besieged for five months. Siege finally broken by a rebel army raised from all across North Azat and led by Dellett E'tute. A week later a Christotan force – waiting to see who'd win, some say – lands to support W'fac. Uprising in Pallathon suppressed by the crown.
1104: The Wastes cities go over to W'fac one by one; Rustot, Parbola and K'aam after revolts, Estot-Galahan and Gilmour on the inititative of their governors. As with K'ram, power is transferred to 'People's Councils.' The Bandar lands remain loyal, though, send support to the king and start harrassing the Wastes ctiies. First major clashes between Pallathon and K'ram, which have become the centres for the two warring powers.
1105: The rebellion spreads to the Bandar, bolstered by Noriscan mercenaries. W'fac's forces beaten at Lake Palaba but the Christotans capture the Unsaran Hills for him.
1106: The Battle of Mexan Ford – a resounding victory for W'fac, engineered by Dellett E'tute. In its wake Nachbar and most of the North Azat lands switch their allegience to W'fac. In the autumn the Bandar lands agree to do likewise in the Galaj Accord.
1107: Another revolt in Pallathon leaves the monarchy with virtually nothing to rule. They flee the country and are sheltered, ironically, by Christoté. W'fac is declared Sazar ('First Citizen') of Kakranfé, still ruling from K'ram. For an encore, in the autumn he destroys a Labbish fleet in the Azat Estuary, though quickly signs peace with Labland again.
1108-20: The Inner Revolution. W'fac rebuilds Kakranfé's structures almost from scratch. The country becomes a federation, each region given a strong degree of autonomy. Each is ruled by a democratically elected parliament whose members in turn choose the Sazar. Within the region, the territories and towns in turn have considerable freedom. The judiciary is also reformed, education and healthcare begin to be expanded. Though the measures are resisted in turn they are basically in place by 1120, and have been used to rule Kakranfé ever since. E'tute takes over the armed forces and pulls it in the opposite direction, making it a single power rather than a mass of regional militias.
1121: Kakranfé launches an attack on Labland, grabbing territory on the south Azat Estuary.
1122: The war hots up; Kakranfé siezes Arazit and the Anden Shelf but attacks on Y'kel F'raf and Barbel are beaten away. The Bandar lands, independently, support an unsucessful revolt by the Arglyon against Norisca.
1123: Counter-attack by Labbish and Nissal troops retakes almost all land in the Mittelgs lost the previous year. Kakranfan army defeated in the L'tel Straits. Norisca begins reprisal attacks in the Bandar, preventing reinforcements being sent to the Labbish war. Christotan secret agents begin infiltrating Labland.
1125: June, 'The Blackest Month.' A mass Labbish-Nissal sailing defeats another Kakranfan fleet, recapturing Pallathan and all land around the Palba Mouth. Simultaneously Noriscan troops grab a large swathe of the Bandar, destroying Galaj and beseiging Eko-Drakkan. Later in the year a Kakranfan army defeated just outside Esbar. The country remains firm, though, and behind W'fac; a resolve eulogised by many subsequent songs and poems.
1126: W'fac launches an all-or-nothing counter-thrust down North Azat. He meets and routs the Labbish at the Battle of the Coes. All of North Azat recaptured by the end of the year; however Arazit falls to Labland. Siege of Eko-Drakkan lifted but Noriscan ships continue harassing the Bandar coast.
1127: Two countries ally with Kakranfé, largely to fight their own traditional enemies. Bedral marches against Norisca, Astmad starts incursions into Nissal. The Azat war cools down, each side rebuilding their forces.
1128: A second battle in the L'tel Straits ends in victory for Kakranfé, though Dellett E'tute goes down with his ship. A series of small but tactically important islands and Estuary territores siezed by W'fac. The Norisca-Bedral war heats up; Kakranfé more or less steps back and leaves them to it.
1130: The Chrisototan agents start to have an effect, stirring up rebellions in Y'kel F'raf, Sardac and Holaich. Attempts by Kakranfé to support the first two unsucessful. But a regiment marches through the Zanzins and helps the Holaich rebels drive Nissal out. Indeterminate fighting around the Azat Estuary.
1131: Invaision of Nissal launched from Holaich. Nissal signs a truce with Kakranfé to concentrate on its developing war with Astmad. Sardac and Arazit both rebel against Labland; half of the former and all the latter grabbed by Kakranfan troops. An invasion of the Mittelgs gets as far as Dorleans by the winter.
1132: Dorleans captured after a siege, likewise the city of Sardac. An attempt by a Kakranfan fleet to sail up the Asat is checked at the mouth of the estuary. Kakranfan troops land on St'lakan but another attempt to grab Y'kel F'raf quickly fails.
1133: In spring, a Labbish army passes through the Zanzins and launches a surprise attack on North Azat, getting as far as Pallathon. Kakranfan troops hurridly retreat to check them, fighting various indeterminate battles and have pushed them back to the Palba by winter. The Mittelg army reaches the River Altaran, taking Jomat and the Anden Shelf.
1134: The Christotan agents strike again. A coup d'etat in Y'kel F'raf delivers the city and the whole of St'lakan to Kakranfé. Rebellions in several parts of Labland, including Niche; last year's invaiders are withdrawn to suppress them. In August the remnants of the Labbish navy are destroyed in the Azat Estuary. The Kakranfans have never been seriously challenged for naval supremacy since. Two days later Q'ern W'fac dies of natural causes. His sucessor Biltan K'lapath spends the rest of the year accepting the surrender of the remaining Azat Islands, including Savacia and Shirilaz.
1135: A slow tri-pronged advance begins on Labland. One army clears the north shores of the Eastuary of Labbish troop. Boats sail up the River Asat and destroy settlements. Meanwhile the Mittelgs army is beaten away from Barbel but routs a Labbish army and captures North Jomat. Another major uprising in Niche.
1136: Labland surrenders. Kakranfé withdraws from the Mittelgs west of the Anden and north of the Altaran. But it keeps all the Estuary shore as far west as Kulch and Marisk, as well as all the Islands.
1137: Biltan K'lapath forces Nissal to accept Holaich's independence.
1138-42: Construction of a road through the Zanzins linking Kakranfé to Holaich.
1159: Signing of the Jade Alliance between Erenland, Christoté and Kakranfé.
1162: The island of Savacia - once the property of Schall before its capture first by Labland, then Kakranfé - is restored by the latter to Christoté.
1164: First naval attacks on Cuorn Tall launched by Kakranfé
1176-7 Unsucessful invaision of Holaich by Nissal.
1200: Another attempted invasion of Cuorn Tall begins.
1203: Labland's attack on Barbel sparks off another war
1206: The Cuorn Tall expedition called off as Labbish troops invaide the Mittelgs.
1208: Kakranfan troops, with Christotan aid, invaide eastern Anthrelle and threaten Labland
1210: Labland surrenders, giving away much of its south-eastern territory including Rifton.
1224: An alliance of Nissal, Labland and Moulin invades Holaich, defeated in one cataclysmic battle by the Kakranfans.
1227: Kakranfan/Christotan force captures the island of Westleigh.
1227-45 Invaision of Cuorn Tall, overruning much of island at times though eventually withdrawing.
1231-4 Another unsucessful invasion of Holaich by Nissal
1234: Revolt in Rifton and Anthrelle against Kakranfan rule. Labbish troops arrive in support of the rebels
1238: Christoté persuades Kakranfé to hand western Anthrelle back to Labland
1269: Rebellion of Westleigh drives Kakranfé off the island.
1286: Kakranfé navy recaptures Westleigh.
1299: Entering of the Ten Years War on the side of Christoté
1301: Amphibious invaision
up the Asat of Labland to ending up besieging Niche. Joined by Christotan troops by winter
1302: Cuorn Tall again takes Westleigh from Kakranfé, yet to lose it this time.
1303: The Ten Years War ends with Labland defeated and Tenrif overthrown. Much of eastern Labland annexed by Christoté and Kakranfé, including all land along Asat Estuary.
