"Broad and straight, holding long stone terraces towering over expansive pavements, it runs directly from Vellers Square to the Westgate. The route by which the travellers of the Mellertang Way pass through the city, to call it a busy arterial road is an understatement. The curfew gates around central Jalkin had just been lifted and the road was a juddering, crying, neighing mass of activity. The pavements were scarcely emptier, sprouting groups of cat-calling locals, atavistic street vendors and wagon crews unloading vast amounts of goods. A quarter of the buildings along Leighman Way are stables or warehouses, and half the remainder are pubs."
