CHRISTOTÉ

Radav Mestic

Definitely a fallen political star, though some have faith that he will one day rise again.  Radav Mestic was born into a family of wealthy Dorlafan academics and studied law at the University of Dorlaf.  He entered Yaleth Council at an indecently tender age in 1308 and played a prominent role in Sebsen Acrippa's early reign.  He quickly became a Privy Councillor and then the head of Federation Office, despite holding a tendency for left-wing views.  His popularity was tempered by rumours of his fondness for graft, though he was certainly no more corrupt than many of his contemporaries.  In 1316 Mestic quit Yaleth Council (for reasons no-one is quite sure about) and successfully ran for Emissary in the ward of Altan.  Altan was then in a hell of a mess and had just jettisoned its Emissary in response; Mestic alleviated the problems successfully enough to hold his seat in the 1318 decadal elections.  However, in central government he was unwise enough to begin a rivalry with the Brightson-Fortraine partnership which was just forming.  Mestic made life miserable for the right-wing Fortaine at the latter's first few Regional Assemblies, and for a time looked like forming a successful coalition against the Baron whose election he had opposed.  Brightson, though, began a skilful whispering campaign which Mestic, a plain talker at his best in direct confrontation, found hard to counter.  A series of sly accusations and a word in Chancellor Acrippa's ear found Mestic sacked from Federation Office in 1325; the order was made in Acrippa's absence and many people have subsequently the seal on the bottom.  A week later Mestic was offered was offered a menial role in Petitions Office to rub the salt in and he immediately quit his Privy Council post in disgust.  His fall brought little reaction from an apathetic Cities resigned to losing the last few good apples at that time.  Thoroughly disillusioned, Mestic stood down at the 1328 elections.  Ever since he has lived in Leipdale where he runs a modest orchard farm, though he has considered re-entering law.  He is still on 51, and a number of like-thinking people, Molan Grist and Allark Liarno amongst them, have tried to tempt him back into the political fray.
