Women (standard) – thigh-length skirt attached to the bodice with braided cord, skirts made of light blue, turquoise or green cloth, embroidered with lacework or braids.  Sleeveless blouse embroidered in geometric patterns.  Short apron sometimes worn over the skirt, also embroidered

Single girls traditionally supposed to cover their heads, married women allowed to reveal their hair (not generally enforced now).  High crowned felt hats with wide brims and bands of twisted cord around crown popular.  Also headdresses consisting of narrow crown decorated with beads, headdress itself decorated with coloured glass beads or gold thread.

Men (standard) – Either standard tunic and striped trousers or silk/cotton. Khalet popular for ceremonial occasions – long-sleeved coat falling to knees, generally striped ride and white/black/yellow. Worn with dark trousers.  Low-crowned, wide-brimmed hat, usually in dark colours but decorated with coloured stones.

Variants – Women – skirt and sleeveless bodice, girdle worn and tied at one side, fringed ends decorated with glass beads.  Party gear: brightly coloured skirt worn over a slightly longer petticoat, white apron over front opening of skirt.  White long-sleeved blouse with floral decoration on front and sleeves, sometimes dark stripes on sleeves instead. Floral headdress with coloured ribbons hanging at back.
